Some of you already know I’ve released music before. But to me working on this new music made me feel like I went back to square one, in a good way.

This is the first time I’ve done something entirely on my own. I recorded it at home, with no co-producers, engineers or labels. I had the opportunity to really follow my vision all the way through, which was an amazing experience. Of course, I could never have done this without my friends and family.

So I wanted to tell you a bit about the process for this EP, titled Around And Back And Around.

In the past couple years, I’ve gone back to playing and listening to classical music a lot. That’s been a really important part of the process.

There’s also this idea I’ve been working on and developing for a while… I’ve become fascinated by the human body and the way it moves, and the ways in which movement connects to music.

So I started to work on rhythm and melodies that would follow human movements.

I started exploring different actions by recording myself doing things like walking in the street, running down the stairs in museums, jumping around…and then used those recordings as a starting point to write music.

I used the cello, which I hadn’t played in ages (and never very well), but I thought it would be great for it because it feels so human. I also used my voice and some percussion recordings by a drummer I admire very much, Marc Pell, aka Suitman Jungle.

Around And Back And Around is the first outcome of these experimentations. I look forward to putting out more this year.

I want to thank Kai, Marc, Megan, Georgie, Tom, Rich and Hiroki for their help and for being so supportive, definitely couldn’t have done it without you.

I hope you’ll like it
